What progression can look like
Itch or irritation
Some people notice itching before visible bumps, including after a close shave or helmet use.
Firm bumps
Small bumps can appear on the nape or back of the scalp and may itch, become inflamed or develop pustules.
Bumps enlarge and join
Without adequate control, lesions can enlarge and merge into raised scar-like plaques.
Scarring and hair loss
Established scarring can cause permanent hair loss and can be much harder to treat.
